I am passing along information from Jillian Froebe, my partner, about the Art of Death events in Bellingham this weekend; the exhibit invites us to explore our relationship with death and dying “as a process of transition.” And then next weekend, Ravi Ravindra will offer his public talk on the 17th at 7:30, at the Unitarian Fellowship, also themed around the subject of death.

Dear Friends,

I am in the midst of a walkabout, an r.s.v.p. to death’s invitation, collecting stones and images while an interactive art piece for The Art of Death exhibit is born. I invite you to join me in this community of remembrance.

While flowers fade, stones and souls endure, A stone may symbolize the permanence of memory and legacy. As part of an evolving installation, you are invited to place stones, small and large, piled without pattern on a death shroud, as you reflect on your own death or the death of a loved one. In this way, we will build a community of remembrance, not with hearts of stone, rather with stones of heart.

This is part of a The Art of Death Juried Art Show featuring a range of original pieces all themed around Death and Dying as a process or transition. There will also be various local agencies and businesses manning informational tables about options on End of Life Choices in addition to musical performances, storytelling and dance pieces.

Ravi Ravindra Public Talk October 17th

In a prior blog posting, there was misinformation regarding LOCATION for Ravi’s public talk on “Daily Dying, ” on October 17th! It will be held at 7:30 pm at the Bellingham Unitarian Fellowship, 1207 Ellsworth Street. The requested donation of $15 will partially be a donation to Maher, the beautiful healing community in Pune, India run by Sister Lucy Kurien. If you by chance don’t know about Maher, look for its website and learn more! We are having Ravi’s talk this time in a context that is supportive of his kind of intellectual and spiritual inquiry, as well as being accessible on a physical level, for those for whom the long staircase at 8Petals posed a problem. Hope to see you there! Let me know if you have questions.RR
