Stitching the Fabric of Difference Deming 03-2017Greetings! In hopes that some of you may wish to partake of pizza and neighborliness in a conversation to be held at the Deming Library this coming Thursday on March 30th at 6:30 pm, here is a letter we sent out via email this past week. In these days of deepening divides, here is an opportunity to find community connection despite the differences.

Our conversation is part of a larger project called Stitching the Fabric of Difference: Our American Quilt for which we received a “Project Neighborly” Whatcom Community Foundation grant, just after the election and in the wake of the deepening recognition of some great divides in our very own Whatcom County community as well as in communities across the nation. The conversation will be part of the inspiration for the creation of a quilt, a tangible reflection of what binds us in a community that works and plays together, as we stand by and help each other regardless of our differences. Certainly our most recent experiences throughout the winter storms and silver thaw are evidence that we are indeed “neighborly.”
Our first gathering will feature Sheryl Fullner speaking about the significance of community quilt making throughout American history. We will engage in our conversation and share locally prepared pizza together! We look forward to a lively and engaging evening with friends and neighbors in a circle of varying opinions, respectfully noting our differences, as we simultaneously discover and honor that which connects us. Quilt squares and directions on embellishing them will also be available that evening.
PLEASE NOTE: AS THE ATTACHED FLYER INDICATES, WE DO GATHER AT 6:30 PM ON THURSDAY EVENING MARCH 30th, BUT IMAGINE WE WILL BE ENGAGED FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS; THE END TIME OF 7:30 PM IS A TYPO!
Please send an email letting Elizabeth know of your plan to come, and how many will be in your party, so we can estimate how much food we will need! elizabethkerwin@hotmail.com
Looking forward to seeing many of you at the Deming Library on the 30th!
We would appreciate you helping us to spread the word, by passing this along to others in our community.
Warmly,
Elizabeth and Jillian
