Some recent Sutra reading chai drinkers requested this recipe: it is from the Hollyhock Cookbook. Into 9 cups of water, put 1/4 cup fresh grated ginger, 2 large cinnamon sticks, 2 tsp. whole cardamom seeds, 12 whole cloves, 2 tsp. whole fennel seeds. Boil until only 1/3 its original volume, about 3 cups. Remove from heat, add black tea, either 2 tsp loose leaf or 2 tea bags…I usually use extra tea, by the way, and steep 10 minutes. Drain off to remove tea and spices, and then add milk and sweetener, as well as vanilla extract to taste.
