Benefit Kirtan – Sunday August 19th!

Gina Sala and Steve Gorn are highly accomplished musicians, and we welcome back the gifts and presence of Heather and Benjy Wertheimer as well, to Bellingham, so soon again after the June kirtan at Presence Studio! Gina has graciously offered to donate a percentage of the proceeds from this event to once again benefit Maher Ashram. I welcome you joining us for what will be a lovely evening of song, spirit and heart opening singing and musical enjoyment! Please note, tickets are less expensive in advance. I will sell some, and they will also be at the Food Co-op. Children’s tickets are just $5, so bring yours and your grandkids along! This is music that may be enjoyed by all ages!

Our own Kelly – student in various classes with Elizabeth and also assistant and apprentice – is in India on her own yogic journey, possibly even to meet Mr. Iyengar! Kelly is writing a blog about her travels that you can find here or by clicking on the picture of Kelly to the left. So far it doesn’t look like she has set up a way to subscribe to the blog, but when she does, we’ll let you know that too.

UPDATE: Kelly left a comment saying “You can subscribe to my (kelly’s)post by going to my blog, scroll down to the bottom of the post and click subscribe. Today, i was accepted into upstairs class at Ramamani Memorial Yoga Institute for daily classes!! Not an easy task, thank u to all supporters!”

A Reflection from the Upanishads

“Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”
— The Upanishads

Yoga In Everyday Life

My friend and yoga student John passed along this link today, which essentially invites each of us to make ethical choices through how we spend our money; have a look if you like! The foundation of yoga is in the Yamas, the Great Vow of yoga, which has the essential teaching of nonharming; we all know that we can practice yoga in our lives through our everyday choices, but information and guidance along these lines is not always clear. See if this is a useful tool for you.

BETTER WORLD SHOPPER is a site dedicated to providing people with a
comprehensive, up-to-date, reliable account of the social and
environmental responsibility of every company on the planet AND making
it available in practical forms that individuals can use in their
everyday lives. Coming out of more than 5 years of intensive research,
this work is based on a comprehensive database of over 1000 companies
and utilizes 25+ reliable sources of data to cover everything from the
environment to human rights, community development to animal protection.

Hearty thanks to all of you who participated in raising funds so that others may eat, and eat well! Together we raised $1,075 dollars to disperse through these worthy organizations, which will provide benefit locally and abroad in the larger world.
